In one of the Viewport -> Edit -> Configure All. Go to Attributes window, select Filter tab, and check Axis Bands.

Moving around in C4D
Alt + left mouse
Alt + middle mouse
Alt + right mouse
left/right click on viewport move icon + drag - left pans, right zooms in/out
left click rotate icon - rotate around object axis
ctrl + left click rotate icon - rotate around camera
right click rotate icon - roll camera

Extrusion in Cinema 4D
Tip: Use space bar to toggle between live selection and current editing tool

1) Create a parametric poly
2) Turn it into editable mesh
3) Select the face (or faces) you want to extrude
4) Right click and select Extrude
5) If you mouse over the selected face, you will see two overlapping rectangle icons
6) Click and drag sideway to extrude.
